About Me

Here are a few things about me

Do I consider myself an artist? No. I simply love to create.

During a depressive chapter, I sought a creative outlet and discovered that working with my hands is a great therapeutic and soothing escape. It is not always the end product that provides satisfactory emotion but the overall process of creation. These “things” are mostly the fruit of manual manipulation and testing new techniques and materials.

In the aim to not burden Mother Earth I always prefer to use organic and sustainable materials wherever possible.

Materials

Wood

Wood shouldn’t be mistaken as one material as it hosts a whole range of different species for many unique purposes.
I adore colour of yew, lustre of maple, picture of grain of pine tree, workability of beech. I love different timber, still being overwhelmed with all that knowledge attached to that range of materials.

Sisal fibres

Agave Sisalana is a species of flowering plant native to Southern Mexico, it is also widely cultivated and naturalised in many other countries. The material consists of stiff fibres often used to create rope. As part of my crafts I enjoy its raw structure of natural agave fibres to create macramé.

reclaimed newspappers

A cost efficient and creative recycling material for basketry weaving. After impregnating the newspaper with water based varnish, woven baskets become almost as sturdy as wicker. I personally like to describe this as one of my crafting discovery breakthroughs of lockdown.

Cotton and linnen treads

Both cotton and linen are natural fibres and sustainable options however, through research I have learned that during the production process, linen is a better carbon neutral alternative. Therefore I often opt to use this in my crafts wherever possible.
